Description

UNDERQUILT/HAMMOCK INSULATION:
Sleeping in a hammock even in winter is not much different from sleeping on the ground. In this case, too, having proper insulation is top priority. We use a sleeping pad/mat on the ground as insulation because the filling of the sleeping bag is compressed in contact with the ground, so the insulation is removed. In the case of a hammock, we also compress the filling of the sleeping bag from the bottom and from the side in some places. To provide adequate protection, the bed must be insulated in these places. The underquilt is positioned under the hammock, thanks to which we do not compress its filling, so it provides maximum protection even on the coldest winter nights.

KHIBU MAGMA UNDERQUILT is a down-filled insulating layer under a hammock. Unquestionably, the best form of hammock insulation is the down filling due to its versatile nature (ultralight weight, good thermal insulation, small package size)

10 custom-tailored chambers are connected with each other by a special stripe of a defined width to help to fill the space of the down to the maximum. This down-filled portion, height (LOFT), will determine the comfort value of the quilt. The elastic tensioner system (ETS) running along the sides keeps the edge of the quilt next to the body, thus preventing heat loss. A huge draft collar at both ends ensures proper insulation. The ends can be closed with an elastic cord. The underquilt can be set up in one way, it has a specific head and foot section. Carabiners make securing it easy under the hammock, and cord clamps (cord locks?) make it easy to adjust.

DESIGN: Magma underquilt has a unique defined shape. The part on the head is wider, and narrows slightly towards the foot, so it is important to set it up in the right direction. This unique shape helps in the effectiveness of the insulation. We use techniques such as baffles and differential cut to design the chambers. Baffle design: The inner and outer shell material are not sewn together at the edges of the chambers, but are connected by a special stripe of a defined width. Thanks to this technique, no thermal bridges are formed where insulation could be lost.

DIFFERENTIAL CUT: In addition to the baffle design, to utilize the proper space filling of the down is by providing enough space for that purpose. This is done by tailoring the outer shell larger than the inner one, so that the LOFT (filled part) is not compressed should you create tension to the shell from inside.

SIZE: The dimensions of the BASIC Magma underquilt are given (200 cm × 120/100 cm) This size can be used up to a maximum body height of 190 cm. It is possible to order a custom size, because people (obviously) have different physical abilities, thus we can shave a lot of weight and make quilts more efficient by adjusting to user size.

FRAME: Materials used for the frame are ultra-lightweight 10D anti-tear RIPSTOP nylon fabrics. The inner side is calendered which makes the material down and wind resistant while maintaining proper air permeability at the same. The material is water repellent due to the DWR (durable water repellent) coating.

DOWN: Magma underquilts contain premium goose down. The quilts filled with a filling power of 800CUIN. CUIN (cubic inches/ounce) shows how much volume an ounce of down fills. The higher the number, the less amount is needed of it to achieve the same comfort rating.

UNDERQUILT BENEFITS:

– comfortable

– ultralight

– takes up very little space

– outstanding insulating ability

DETERMINING THE COMFORT VALUE:

The warmth of a quilt depends on many things (baffle design, shape, fill power and amount of down, etc.), but is most easily determined by the height of the “LOFT” in the baffle chamber. These are approximate values as each person has different metabolism. So it is not set in stone, as the EN13537 standard is a guideline. It is important to wear appropriate, clean, dry clothing to achieve maximum insulation. Don’t sleep hungry and thirsty! Use the “bathroom” before going to hammock
